Plano (/ˈpln/ play-noh) is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located mostly within Collin County, but with a small portion that extends into Denton County, twenty miles northeast of downtown Dallas.  Plano is “a vibrant city for families to live in,” says City Manager, Bruce Glasscock. “Plano has developed a high level of quality services for the community that is accessible to everyone who lives here. The city's population was 269,776 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth most populous city in the state of Texas (Corpus Christi was ranked at #8 and Laredo #10), and the 70th most populous in the United States.[4] The city is an affluent hub for manycorporate headquarters, such as Alliance Data, Cinemark Theatres, Dell Services,Denbury Resources, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Ericsson, Frito-Lay, HP Enterprise Services, Huawei, J. C. Penney, Pizza Hut, Rent-A-Center, Traxxas, Siemens PLM Software, and Toyota Motors USA.

The Plano Independent School District serves most of the city. Student enrollment has increased dramatically over the past few decades. Plano has a unique high school system, in which grades 9-10 attend a high school and grades 11-12 attend a senior high.[51] There are three senior high schools (grades 11-12) in PISD; Plano East, Plano, and Plano West.[51] In Newsweek's 2012 list of best national high schools, Plano West was ranked as 63rd, Plano Senior as 108th, and Plano East as 243rd.[52] Small portions of Plano are served by the Lewisville Independent School District, Frisco Independent School District, and Allen Independent School District. The three main high schools in Plano are Plano West Senior High School, Plano Senior High School, and Plano East Senior High School.
